Imperialkriege
29 June - 1 July 2009
This conference aims to achieve an understanding of asymmetrical and transcultural violent conflicts from the early modern period to modern times in diachronic and international comparison. The term ‘imperial wars’ is intended to open the horizon for contributors to look at conflicts going beyond the high noon of the European colonial empires. Wars of decolonization and the most recent western interventions are to be investigated to see how far they fit into a tradition of violence in European expansion since about 1500.
