TRG India event: Oral History Workshop

This workshop is taking place to start off the following project, run by our project partners at JNU, Janaki Nair and Neeladri Bhattacharya:
Oral History/Life Stories Project of the TRG, 2013-14
As members of the Transnational Group Poverty and Education in India, Neeladri Bhattacharya and Janaki Nair, Professors, Centre for Historical Studies, JNU, will develop an archive of Oral Histories/Life stories of the poor, with special emphasis on the question of the experience of poverty and elementary education/skill building.
Those whose oral histories will be sought will be between the ages of 20 and 50, and should have passed through one of the following:
- A government school
- An “alternative” school
- An Industrial Training Institute
- A school run by religious orders/missions/madrassas
An effort will be made to include as diverse a geographical area as possible: at this point, the chosen areas could include: NCR, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, UP, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Bengal. Due attention paid to questions of gender, caste, ethnicity, and region (rural/urban) in the choice of those whose oral histories have been sought.
