Dr Jana Tschurenev

Jana Tschurenev is currently a research fellow at the Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS), University of Göttingen, as part of the Transnational Research Group “Poverty and Education”. She gained her PhD from the Comparative Education Centre, Humboldt University Berlin, with a thesis on educational reform and the circulation of pedagogical knowledge in the early nineteenth century British Empire. From 2009 to 2013, she worked as a lecturer with the Chair for “History of the Modern World” at ETH Zürich, and as a guest lecturer at the University of St Gallen and the University of Braunschweig, where she taught courses on the history of global civil society, gender history, women’s movements, subaltern studies and intersectionality. Her post-doctoral research focus is on the history of anti-alcohol campaigns, international anti-vice activism, and educational reform movements.
