Dr Smita Gandotra

Smita Gandotra joined the TRG in January 2015 as a postdoctoral fellow. During the fellowship period she will be based at King’s College London, with Dr Jahnavi Phalkey as her principal sponsor. Her doctoral thesis was on instructional literature for women in Hindi. Her postdoctoral project extends her interest in this area. She will be assessing the discursive shifts in women’s education, in Hindi print culture of the late colonial period.

Research Interests

She is interested in modern and pre-modern literatures of India, intellectual histories of modern South Asia, the history of concepts, book history, vernacular print cultures and translation studies. Over the years she has taught and researched Victorian literature, modern Indian literature, contemporary world poetry and postcolonial literature.
